The series consists of project files of the Episcopal Society for Cultural and Racial Unity (ESCRU) from 1960-1970. The files include correspondence, reports, questionnaires, surveys, clippings, and printed material. Materials document activities of the ESCRU and include information on surveys to determine Episcopal schools admission policies; the Prayer Pilgrimage; surveys on the placement of Black clergy; picketing of the Lovett School (Atlanta, Ga.); picketing of the segregated St. Paul Episcopal Church (Selma, Ala.); the murder of Episcopal seminarian, Jonathan Myrick Daniels, subsequent trial and the development of Operation Southern Justice to appraise the public of southern injustices; the Southern Field Service Program designed to facilitate integration in Southern churches and communities; and clergy involvement in civil rights activities.
